The Office for Community Affairs congratulates International Women’s Day to all women from all non-majority communities, let us join forces and fight for gender equality and a better and more beautiful life for all of you!
We celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8 as a symbol of the women’s fight for equality and rights. This day has its roots in the labor movement of the early 20th century when women around the world fought for better working conditions, the right to vote, and equal pay. The first official Women’s Day was celebrated in 1909 in the United States, while the concept of an international holiday originated in Europe, thanks to the initiative of Clara Zetkin. In 1977, the United Nations officially recognized March 8 as a day dedicated to women’s rights and gender equality.
Today, International Women’s Day is celebrated worldwide as a reminder of the achievements made, and the challenges women still face in the pursuit for equality. In our context, the struggle for the right to education, right to representation in decision-making and politics continues. Each year, regardless of the progress made, it is essential to persist in the fight for a better position of women in our society!
Sincerely, OCA
