The Office of Community Affairs supported the Ashkali community again this year in celebration of the National Ashkali community Day. The celebration took place on 15th of February 2024 in Hotel Venus, and was attended by more than 400 guests on the occasion of marking the 21st anniversary of the National Day.
On this occasion, Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, who offered his support to this community through a video message that was shown at the very beginning of the event, Deputy Prime Minister, Besnik Bislimi, Kosovo Parliament Speaker, Glauk Konjufca, Deputy Prime Minister for Communities, Emilija Redžepi, President of the “Ashkali Party for Integration”, Etem Arifi, Member of Parliament from the community, Bekim Arifi, and Advisor to the Prime Minister, Artan Asllani congratulated the community. This celebration was attended by many different political representatives, representatives of local and central institutions, as well as local and international organizations.
The message sent during this event is that the Ashkali community in Kosovo has contributed to the development of Kosovo, one example is the recommendation of a young girl from this community made to the Prime Minister, which contributed to over 90,000 women who now have bank accounts with minimal bank account maintenance costs. Also, that the government is ready to support citizens in different ways in order to create a more equal and stronger society.
