The Office for Community Affairs sends its most cordial congratulations on the occasion of the International Roma Day, congratulating on the achievements in Kosovo society. Every community makes Kosovo special and richer, and so is every Roma living and raising their children in Kosovo. Hoping that in the next period, we will successfully cooperate and work together to create a better future and coexistence for all of us!
Roma Day, or International Roma Day, is celebrated on April 8 in commemoration of the first World Roma Congress, held in London in 1971. At the Congress, important decisions were made for the Roma community, including the adoption of the Roma flag (blue and green flag with the red sixteen spoked chakra in the middle) and anthem “Djelem, Djelem”.
This day is celebrated to raise awareness about the culture, history, and rights of the Roma, but also about the problems they face, such as discrimination and social exclusion. It also serves as an opportunity to highlight the contribution of Roma to society and promote their equality. April 8 is recognized by the United Nations and other international organizations as a day of solidarity and support for the Roma community around the world.
For a better life and equal rights!
Sincerely, OCA
