Under the organization of the Office for Community Affairs within the Office of the Prime Minister, on 20th June a conference was held to mark the Egyptian Community Memorial Day – a commemorative event and at the same time an affirmation of this community’s contribution to our society. Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, participated in this event. Alongside him were also present the Acting Deputy Prime Minister for Minority Affairs and Human Rights, Emilija Rexhepi; the Acting Minister of the Ministry of Local Government Administration, Elbert Krasniqi; Member of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, Veton Berisha; as well as representatives of the Egyptian community from the municipal level and from civil society.
In his speech, Prime Minister Kurti emphasized that one of the fundamental principles of governance remains the support for non-majority communities. He mentioned that during his term, funds have been allocated for capital investments in projects that improve infrastructure in neighborhoods and villages, for the construction of houses, and for public kitchens. He particularly emphasized the awarding of scholarships for youth from non-majority communities and the efforts toward their employment, with the aim of creating a more equitable distribution and providing equal opportunities for all. “For the story of this community, for the circumstances of this society, which at every stage stand beside us to share in hardship, yet, unfortunately, not always to experience the good together. For this reason, on behalf of the Albanian majority, not only as Acting Prime Minister, I will do more, every day and not just on 24 June,” said Prime Minister Kurti, thanking the Egyptian community for their extraordinary contribution to the country’s progress and development, and wishing them well on their Memorial Day.
After the conference, the attendees participated in a reception held on the open balcony of the Government building, where the dialogue continued in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
