Open Day for Communities

The Office of Community Affairs organized the Open Day for Communities at the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety. This event was organized in close cooperation with the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety and brought together over 65 young people from various communities, primarily from the final years of secondary school and the first years of university studies, from all over Kosovo. The purpose of the event was to familiarize them with career opportunities in public safety institutions.

Considering the previous organization of the Open Day for Communities on 15 November 2023, during which nine young people from communities were employed in public safety institutions, this event also had a special dimension. In addition to the Academy, their programs and opportunities were presented by officials from the Kosovo Police, Kosovo Customs, Kosovo Probation Service, Police Inspectorate of Kosovo and Emergency Management Agency.

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, congratulated the youth from non-majority communities for taking this step towards the opportunity to start their careers in public safety institutions. He expressed his support for them on behalf of the Ministry, encouraging them to familiarize themselves with the admission criteria for these institutions, so that in the near future they can join them as members. Minister Sveçla thanked the organizers from the Office of Community Affairs within the Office of the Prime Minister.

The Acting General Director of the Academy, Kastriot Jashari, informed the attendees that KAPS has always been open to all communities living in Kosovo, thus contributing to increasing security in the country. He thanked the Office of Community Affairs within the Office of the Prime Minister, specifically Elizabeth Katherine Gowing, for her contribution and commitment to organizing this event.

The Acting Director of the Department for Security and Public Safety within the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, Maria de Benito Rodriguez, thanked the organizers for organizing this event at KAPS. She shared her personal experience in engaging with the police in her home country, encouraging and motivating young people from non-majority communities to begin a career in any of the public safety professions they enjoy, whether as a police officer, customs officer, correctional officer or firefighter. Continuing her speech, she also spoke about the international dimension that the police profession had personally offered her, providing details about the friendships she had built with other professionals from around the world.

Elizabeth Katherine Gowing, Advisor to the Prime Minister for Community Affairs, thanked the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety and Mr. Valon Llugaxhiu from the Office of Community Affairs for the opportunity, dedication and organization of this event for Open Days for Communities. She informed the attendees that participants had come from many municipalities in Kosovo and many local NGOs dealing with non-majority community issues were also involved.
