The Office for Community Affairs gathered representatives of municipal offices for communities and returns to discuss the problems and needs of their fellow citizens from non-majority communities. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, along with the Deputy Prime Minister for Minority Affairs and Human Rights, Mrs. Emilia Rexhepi and the Minister for Communities and Returns, Nenad Rasic, were answering the questions of the participants.
Prime Minister Kurti began his speech with the statement of the third president of the USA, Thomas Jefferson, that “The best government is the one that is closest to the people”. Then he added that “to be as close as possible to the people, we need structures and individuals engaged at the local level, that’s why we are grateful to have you as municipal officials for communities and return, close to the citizens in our municipalities.”
The Prime Minister also shared with them information about the government’s plans as well as the measures taken so far to help each municipality. He also drew the attention of those present to the planned population census and the importance of the participation of all citizens.
Minister Rasic shared information about the work of the Ministry for Communities and return, how to use the three million euros received by the government, which was aimed at increasing the well-being of non-majority communities.
In the end on the meeting was also discussed about the challenges and opportunities identified for cooperation for the information campaign for the liberalization of the visa regime.
The representatives of the municipal offices for communities and returns expressed their gratitude for the government’s interest in listening to them and that such meetings would be very desirable in the future as well.
